Several thousand years ago, practitioners in China observed how disease and disharmonies develop as a result of the various physical and mental stresses in our lives. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory explains how these disharmonies are an imbalance of the body’s vital energy (qi) along the meridian pathways, which are channels through which the body’s energy is able to flow. Acupuncture restores the original smooth flow of qi thereby improving circulation and harmonizing function within the body’s organs. By inserting and manipulating needles at specific points, I am able to rebalance the energy flow and thus encourage the body’s ability to heal itself.
Acupuncture can help with an infinite variety of health issues; for a specific health problem or symptom, fertility issues, to reduce stress and anxiety levels, or simply to improve general health and wellbeing.
One of the particular strengths of acupuncture is that it can help with health issues that have no definite or conventional medical diagnosis whether physical, mental or emotional; an indication of acupuncture’s ability to see the person beneath the presenting complaint. As treatment is aimed at the root cause of the condition, rather than symptoms in isolation, it can be effective for a whole range of acute and chronic problems.
Here are some examples of the types of health complaints acupuncture can help with:
